Ingredient Notes
Brownie Bottom:
Brownie Mix (family size, for a 13×9″ pan): The base of the bars, providing a rich, fudgy chocolate layer.
Large Eggs: Bind the brownie batter together and contribute to its structure and moisture.
Water: Helps hydrate the brownie mix, ensuring a smooth and even batter.
Vegetable Oil: Adds moisture and richness, giving the brownies their signature chewy texture.
Coconut Pecan Topping:
Sweetened Condensed Milk: Creates a creamy, sweet base that binds the coconut and pecans together.
Vanilla Extract: Enhances the topping’s sweetness with a warm, aromatic depth.
Large Egg: Helps set the topping, giving it structure while keeping it rich and moist.
Sweetened Coconut Flakes: Provide texture and a tropical sweetness that pairs perfectly with the chocolate.
Chopped Pecans (toasted, optional): Add crunch and a nutty depth that enhances the overall flavor.
Semi-Sweet Chocolate Chips: Melt slightly into the topping, adding pockets of chocolatey goodness throughout.
Serving Suggestions
Enhance your Chocolate Brownie Bars with:
A dusting of powdered sugar for a classic touch.
A drizzle of warm chocolate or caramel sauce for extra indulgence.
A scoop of vanilla, caramel, or coffee ice cream for a dreamy pairing.
Chopped nuts or chocolate chips mixed into the batter for added texture.
Tips for Brownie Perfection
Don’t overbake: Brownies should be slightly underdone in the center for a fudgy texture.
Use high-quality chocolate: The better the chocolate, the richer the flavor.
Let them cool completely: This helps the bars set and makes them easier to cut.
For extra gooey brownies: Slightly warm them before serving for a melt-in-your-mouth experience.

Chocolate Brownie Bars
Ingredients
Brownie Bottom:
- 18.3 oz 520gram box family size brownie mix, (for a 13×9" pan)
- 2 large eggs or as listed on box
- 3 tablespoon water or as listed on box
- ⅔ cup 160ml vegetable oil, or as listed on box
Coconut Pecan Topping:
- 14 oz 400g can sweetened condensed milk
- 1 ½ cups 125g sweetened coconut flakes
- 1 cup 115 g chopped pecans, *toasted (optional)
- ¾ cup 125 g semi-sweet chocolate chips
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 large egg
Instructions
Step 1: Toast the Pecans (Optional but Recommended!)
- If you're planning to toast the pecans, do this first since the recipe moves fast! Heat a dry skillet over medium heat, then add the pecans. Stir frequently until they turn golden brown and release a nutty aroma—this takes about 2-5 minutes. Once toasted, immediately transfer them to a cutting board or heat-safe plate to prevent overcooking. Let them cool completely before chopping, if needed.
Step 2: Prep the Baking Dish
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly grease a 13×9-inch baking pan with cooking spray, or line it with parchment paper, leaving extra overhang for easy lifting later.
- Step 3: Make the Brownie Base
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the brownie mix, eggs, water, and oil as instructed on the box. Stir until mostly smooth (a few lumps are fine). Pour the batter into the prepared pan and spread it out evenly. Bake for 10 minutes—it won’t be fully cooked yet, but the edges should start to set.
Step 4: Prepare the Coconut-Pecan Topping
- While the brownie base is in the oven, mix up the delicious topping. In a separate bowl, stir together sweetened condensed milk, vanilla extract, and egg until smooth. Then, fold in the shredded coconut and chopped pecans until well combined.
Step 5: Assemble & Bake
- Once the brownies have baked for 10 minutes, carefully remove the pan from the oven. Using a spoon, drop small dollops of the coconut-pecan mixture evenly over the surface. (Don’t pour it directly—it sinks into the underbaked brownies, making it tough to spread.) Sprinkle chocolate chips over the top for extra decadence.
- Return the pan to the oven and bake for another 25-30 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out mostly clean.
Step 6: Cool & Serve
- Let the brownies cool completely before cutting. If you used parchment paper, lift the entire dessert out of the pan, place it on a cutting board, and slice into 15 pieces (3 rows by 5 rows).
Storage Tips
- Keep leftovers covered tightly in the pan with plastic wrap or foil, or transfer them to an airtight container.
- Store at room temperature for up to 3-4 days (if they last that long!).
